Stay where Chekhov wrote, an hour from Moscow

Antonpalych is a small smart hotel on a quiet river embankment in Chekhov, the town named after Anton Chekhov. A fifteen-minute drive away is Melikhovo, the estate where he wrote The Seagull. We host international guests regularly: we take care of your migration registration, and we reply in English on WhatsApp and Telegram.

Why Chekhov

Better as an overnight stay than a day trip

Most people visit Melikhovo as a day trip from Moscow and spend half the day travelling. Stay overnight instead: wander the estate where The Seagull and “Ward No. 6” were written, walk the quiet embankment of the Terebenka river, and in the evening the town is quiet and almost empty. Orchards, a river, slow streets: the small-town Russia most visitors never see.

Antonpalych is the affectionate short form of “Anton Pavlovich” — the way Chekhov's friends addressed him.

Breakfast

Three set breakfasts in our own café

Breakfast is served every morning in Jam, our own café on the ground floor, so you do not have to go out for it. Three set breakfasts to choose from, each served with coffee or tea. Monday to Friday 07:30–10:30, Saturday and Sunday 08:00–11:00.

Home-style breakfast: porridge with berries, syrniki and coffee

Home-style

Porridge with fresh berries · syrniki — curd-cheese pancakes, with sour cream or jam · toast

English breakfast: fried eggs, sausages, fresh vegetables and coffee

English

Three fried eggs · two sausages · sliced tomato and cucumber · toast

Classic breakfast: omelette, blini and coffee

Classic

Two-egg omelette · blini — thin Russian pancakes, with sour cream or jam · toast

You can book a rate with breakfast, or without it.
If you pay at reception, breakfast costs 976 RUB per person. It is cheaper inside a rate that already includes it, and you will see both prices when you book — or just ask us. Guests staying several weeks usually take the rate with breakfast. Choosing a rate without breakfast changes nothing else about your booking: you can add breakfast at reception on any morning of your stay, and you pay nothing beyond the room rate.

Getting here

From Moscow or straight from the airport

By suburban train (elektrichka)

Trains to Chekhov leave Moscow's Kursky station (Курский вокзал) every 15–30 minutes; the fastest trains take about 45 minutes. Your stop is Chekhov; on the station signs it is written in Cyrillic: ЧЕХОВ. From the station it's a 10-minute walk along the river to the hotel.

By taxi

Use the Yandex Go app (Uber does not operate in Russia). Domodedovo is the nearest airport; the drive takes about an hour. Show the driver the address card below if needed.

By car

The M2 motorway (Simferopolskoye shosse), about 60 km south of the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD). Free parking at the hotel, covered by CCTV.

Registration & documents

We handle migration registration for foreign guests, as required by Russian law. Bring your passport, a visa if you need one, and the migration card you received at the border (the small paper slip from passport control); make sure all dates are valid. Registration is done at reception; it only takes a few minutes.

Money in Russia — please read before you travel

Foreign bank cards do not work in Russia. Visa, Mastercard and UnionPay cards issued outside Russia are declined everywhere: in our hotel, in shops and at cash machines. Apple Pay and Google Pay do not work either, and Alipay and WeChat Pay are not accepted here. This is not a problem with your bank: please plan for it before you fly.

There are three ways to pay for your room.

1. Your company pays by bank transfer. This is the usual arrangement for invited specialists: if a Russian company invited you, it can pay for your rooms directly. We do this regularly: we sign a contract and issue the invoices and completion certificates your company's accounts department needs. Ask your host company to write to us, and you will not need cash at all.

2. Cash in roubles at reception, before or during your stay. We give you a receipt.

3. Bring foreign cash and change it at a bank. The hotel itself does not exchange currency. Change your money in Moscow if you can — at the airport or at an exchange office in the city. If you run short here, there is a Sberbank branch four minutes' walk away with a currency exchange desk inside — bring your passport. Not all branches exchange Chinese yuan, so ask us first.

Online booking is prepaid and needs a Russian bank card. If you do not have one, message us: we will hold the room for you and you pay cash at reception, or your company pays by transfer. We never ask guests to send money to a personal card or an e-wallet. If someone asks you to do that, it is not us.

Language

At the front desk our team speaks Russian. In writing, English is no problem: message us on WhatsApp or Telegram and we will sort out everything from your booking to your taxi.

Booking without Russian

Our online booking form is in Russian only. If that is difficult, message us on WhatsApp or Telegram (+7 (968) 885-54-73), or email caravan.chehov@yandex.ru — we'll confirm your dates and send payment instructions.

Check-in, breakfast and internet

Check-in from 14:00, check-out by 12:00 (noon). Reception is staffed 24 hours, so you can arrive, check in or come back at any time of the night, however late your train arrives or your shift finishes. Breakfast can be added to your booking; it is served in the “Jam” café on the ground floor (see “Breakfast” above). There is also a shared guest kitchen with crockery and utensils. Wi-Fi is free throughout; a local SIM card requires a passport and is easiest to buy in Moscow.

Around the hotel

Everything useful, on one map

Supermarkets, canteens, a pharmacy, cash machines and a bakery are all within walking distance. The map is labelled in English, Russian and Chinese. You can read it yourself, and you can show the Russian name on your screen to a taxi driver or a shop assistant.

  • Dixy supermarket — 5 min on foot (350 m)
  • VkusVill, fresh food and ready meals — 4 min (300 m)
  • Pyaterochka, budget supermarket — 7 min (600 m)
  • Canteens with a hot lunch for 230–450 RUB — “Столовая” and “Трапезная БРО”. You point at the food behind the counter, no Russian needed; this is where local factory workers eat
  • Gorzdrav pharmacy — 4 min, open until 21:00
  • Currency exchange — Sberbank branch, 4 min, exchange desk and cash machines inside
  • Bakery by the railway station — 4 min
  • Chekhov railway station — 5 min (400 m)
  • Melikhovo estate, Chekhov's house museum — 15 min by car
